Research Justice Shop SPOTLIGHT

October 11, 2021 by Research Justice Shop

Fellows Ian Baran & Connie Valencia collaborated with the Madison Park Neighborhood Association-GREEN on a community air monitoring research project.

2021 fellows Ian Baran (he/they), doctoral student in Urban and Environmental Planning and Policy and Connie Valencia (she/her/ella), a 2nd year in program, 4th year PhD student in Disease Prevention and Public health, worked with MPNA-GREEN on a three-year project on community based air monitoring funded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The research highlights the disparate effects of environmental burdens, specifically air pollution, faced by residents of Santa Ana. Additionally, they worked with a multidisciplinary collaborative with other UCI researchers and MPNA, which utilized a community-based and team science research approach. Their final product is a newsletter/infographic summarizing the work of MPNA-GREEN and informing decision makers and potential funders of their accomplishments and future goals.
